A Journey of a Thousand Miles

Starts with just one step.

Although I have been studying and researching pregnancy, birth and parenting since I became pregnant with my oldest child over four years ago, today I started my journey to becoming a doula. I am 'officially' a doula in training!

I can't express how excited I am about this. I have been lucky enough to be able to stay home with my boys for the last four years but lately I have felt like my life in lacking direction, focus and something just for me.

When I became pregnant I assumed that I would have a hospital birth with an epidural. I felt like birth was something to be feared. It was painful and unknown and a person was going to come out of 'down there'! I was in for a surprise - I managed to make it 36 hours without pain relief! I coped and I coped well. Although I ended having a c-section it was the beginning of understanding that birth is an amazing, spectacular process that a woman's body is made to do! I want to help women to experience an empowering birth. I want to support them and encourage them, and help them realise that they can do it!

I am so excited about this next phase in my life!
